A typical procedure using the Obtura:
1. After complete instrumentation, the canal is irrigated with alternating solutions of sodium hypochlorite and EDTA and dried with paper points.
2. The master cone of gutta percha is fitted to the working length with a sealer (AH Plus or something similar with extended working time).
3. The heating unit is brought down the canal, removing all but approximately 5mm of gutta percha. This apical plug is vertically condensed with S-Kondensers.
4. The canal is backfilled using the Obtura unit with a final backpack using S-Kondensers.
Useful tips:
1. When installing the needle tip on the Obtura, after tightening and bending it, loosen it by a 1/4 turn counter-clockwise in order to angle the tip correctly.
2. When obturating, place the needle into the canal and let it sit there for three seconds before you express the gutta percha, reheating the gutta percha cone. This will ensure there are no gaps (voids) in the canal.
