In order to access a root end, a flap must be created in the tissue. Once gingival tissue is cut with a scalpel it must somehow be held away from the bone. The gingival tissue is connected to the bone with hundreds of fibres, which can only be separated with sharp instruments. That is precisely why Analytic carries a series of curettes or “elevators” which are extremely sharp and can cut through fibres with the efficiency of a scalpel.
